A 24-year-old Guatemalan man, previously deported from the U.S., faces serious charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in her Florida home.
A previously deported individual from Guatemala has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Okaloosa County, Florida.
Jose Chan, a 24-year-old from Guatemala, was arrested and charged with sexual battery by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to law enforcement, Chan allegedly assaulted the girl at her home on February 25. After the incident, the girl informed her family, who then took her to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital.
A medical examination confirmed the assault, and DNA evidence linking Chan to the crime was found after he provided a buccal swab to law enforcement.
Chan, who had previously been deported from the United States on February 9, was identified as a potential "got-away" who had re-entered the country illegally. The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed his prior deportation to law enforcement.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on Chan, requesting custody of him. He is currently being held in Okaloosa County Jail.
