Full Report:

President Joe Biden made a significant gaffe during what was touted as his “Big Boy press conference,” mistakenly referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” This slip-up occurred as Biden answered a question about Harris’s qualifications to face former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

“Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president [if] I think she is not qualified to be president,” Biden responded to a question from an Associated Press reporter.

The incident took place Thursday night amidst Biden's attempts to recover from a disastrous debate performance two weeks prior. This debate showing has led to increasing pressure from Democrats and donors for Biden to withdraw from the race. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was visibly concerned, placing a hand over his mouth when Biden made the error.

Former President Trump quickly seized the opportunity to ridicule Biden on Truth Social, saying, “Crooked Joe begins his ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!”

This mockery prompted a question at the end of the press conference about the slip-up and Trump’s subsequent comments. Biden's response was brief: “Listen to him,” before he walked off.

Polling data released by ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos shows 67 percent of voters believe Biden should withdraw from the 2024 race. Similar sentiment is reflected in polls from CBS News and Morning Consult, with 72 percent and 60 percent of voters, respectively, indicating Biden should not be running, according to Axios. Despite this, Biden remains determined to continue his campaign.

“I’ve got to finish the job,” Biden repeatedly asserted Thursday night.

This determination came on the heels of another mistake earlier that day, when Biden referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.”

Mark Hemingway, Senior Editor at The Federalist, noted that while Biden faced numerous questions about stepping down, there were no inquiries about the absence of cabinet meetings for nine months, the visit of a Parkinson’s expert to the White House, or Hunter Biden’s new presence in the West Wing.
