After a $200 million aid project collapses, the Biden Administration confronts a costly setback in Gaza.
The Biden Administration has acknowledged the failure of its $200 million project to build a pier for delivering aid to Hamas-controlled regions of Gaza. On CNN’s “Situation Room,” White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby discussed plans to dismantle the pier, admitting, "We want to get caught trying. And in this case, we tried the pier, the temporary pier. From the beginning, we knew it wasn’t designed for long-term use, and it would be a hard, complicated task. It proved to be that. It’s also very susceptible to the weather."
Kirby emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to leading global efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza, stating, "We’ve been trying all different ways to do it. We tried the pier, which proved challenging and vulnerable to weather conditions. But we’ve also been conducting airdrops and working with the Israelis diplomatically to open more crossings and increase the flow of aid trucks. We will continue these efforts."
