Former First Lady Melania Trump calls for national unity and expresses gratitude to law enforcement following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Former first lady Melania Trump called for calm and unity on Sunday in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), she expressed her concern for "my fellow Americans" and emphasized the importance of coming together as a nation.
"When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change," she wrote, referring to the July 13 shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Melania expressed gratitude to the secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their lives to protect her husband. "I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband," she stated.
She called for national unity in the aftermath of the tragedy: "I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans. We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one."
Melania reflected on the attack, describing the assailant as a "monster" who saw her husband as merely a political figure. "A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion – his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration," she said. "The core facets of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried below the political machine."
She also offered her sympathy to the families of the victims affected by the attack, saying, "To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy."
