In a recent appearance on Newsmax, Mercedes Schlapp, former White House Director of Strategic Communications, labeled the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story as blatant election interference. Schlapp highlighted the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and mainstream media outlets to bury the story, shielding Hunter Biden’s alleged corruption from the American public during the critical 2020 presidential election cycle.

Schlapp pointed to the now-infamous October 2020 New York Post report detailing the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop. Emails and other data from the laptop suggested troubling ties between Hunter Biden’s business dealings and his father, then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. Despite the potential implications, major social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, blocked or limited the story’s reach.

Even more troubling, Schlapp emphasized, was the revelation that FBI officials had briefed tech companies and media outlets, warning them about potential "Russian disinformation." This claim, which was later debunked, served as a pretext for silencing the laptop story.

"It is pure propaganda, and you have seen time and time again the polls saying if people would have known about the Hunter laptop, that it was actually factual, they might have voted differently. This, I think is complete election interference," remarked Schlapp.

Schlapp also took aim at mainstream media outlets, accusing them of actively suppressing the story.

Many in the media have since acknowledged their failure to properly cover the laptop story. Some even admit that dismissing the allegations as Russian propaganda was a critical error. However, Schlapp remains firm that these acknowledgments are too little, too late.

Schlapp argued that the cover-up of Hunter Biden's laptop story represents a dangerous precedent for democracy. She called for greater transparency and accountability, urging investigations into the FBI’s role and advocating for legislative measures to prevent similar suppression of information in the future.

Polling conducted after the election revealed that many voters were unaware of the laptop allegations during the 2020 campaign. A significant percentage indicated that knowing about the story might have changed their vote, further underscoring Schlapp’s argument about election interference.
