NYC Democrat Praises Incoming Border Czar’s Stance on Sanctuary Cities

Staff Writer

Sanctuary cities are shielding criminals and terrorists," warned NYC Councilman Robert Holden, backing incoming Border Czar Tom Homan's pledge to hold mayors and governors accountable.

New York City Councilman Robert Holden, a Democrat, voiced strong support for incoming Border Czar Tom Homan’s vow to hold sanctuary jurisdictions accountable, accusing mayors and governors of “shielding criminals and terrorists” under the guise of sanctuary city policies.

During an appearance Monday on Fox News Channel’s *Fox & Friends,* Holden expressed frustration with Democratic leaders who defy federal immigration laws. “I love Tom Homan,” Holden said. “He said, ‘We’re going to hold these mayors and governors accountable.’ Sanctuary city laws are violating federal statutes by shielding criminals, and it’s a felony to do so.”

Holden emphasized the need to deport illegal immigrants who engage in criminal activity, arguing that protecting them under sanctuary policies jeopardizes public safety. “We need to actually get rid of and deport these illegal aliens who are committing crime,” he stated.

He also pointed to President-Elect Donald Trump’s authority to enforce federal laws, suggesting a bold approach: “The President could say to the governors and mayors, ‘Cooperate with us, or we’re going to charge you with felonies.’”

Holden’s remarks highlight a growing divide among Democrats over sanctuary policies. While some progressive leaders double down on resistance to federal immigration enforcement, voices like Holden’s suggest cracks in the party’s unity on the issue.

As the incoming Trump administration prepares to take a hard line on immigration, the debate over sanctuary cities promises to escalate, with legal and political consequences for both sides.
