Milwaukee— Former President Donald Trump delivered a powerful and unifying speech as he accepted the GOP presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention, marking his third bid for the presidency.

"The discord and division in our society must be healed. As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny," Trump declared to an enthusiastic crowd. "We rise together. Or we fall apart."

Trump emphasized his commitment to representing all Americans, stating, "I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America because there is no victory in winning for half of America." His 90-minute speech was punctuated by frequent applause and cheers, highlighting his vision to expand the Republican coalition and unify the country.

Addressing the Assassination Attempt

Before delving into his political vision, Trump recounted the harrowing assassination attempt on July 13. Speaking in subdued tones, he described being struck on the right ear shortly after beginning his speech and seeing blood after touching his hand to his ear.

"There was blood pouring everywhere and yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side," Trump shared. He praised the Secret Service members and the calm crowd, who remained composed during the incident.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-Montana) opened the evening's program, reminding attendees, "We were just a quarter of an inch away from having a memorial service instead of a nominating convention. And we thank God here tonight for protecting President Trump."

"I stand before you only because of the grace of almighty God," Trump acknowledged, honoring Corey Comperatore, a bystander who sacrificed his life to protect his family, and calling for a moment of silence in his memory. The attack, Trump said, has only strengthened his resolve to continue his campaign.

"Our resolve is unbroken, and our purpose is unchanged—to deliver a government that serves the American People," he declared.

A Softer Tone

Trump's demeanor was noticeably more subdued than in his usual stump speeches. He wrote this speech personally after the assassination attempt, finishing it on the morning of July 18, according to a campaign source. Much of the speech, including the description of the attack, was delivered off-script.

Terra Krachenfels, an Iowa Trump campaign volunteer, observed a change in Trump. "I feel like his eyes have changed. He’s softened. I think he can feel the love of everybody even stronger," she said, noting that he seems more grateful than ever to be alive.

Trump acknowledged the support of his family, including his wife, Melania, who attended the convention for the first time, and longtime friends and supporters like Terry Bolea (Hulk Hogan) and musician Kid Rock.

"President Trump had a near-death experience, no question," noted religious leader Franklin Graham. "When we go through those experiences, it changes us."

Promised Changes

Trump grew more animated as he outlined his vision for America. "Under our leadership, the United States will be respected again. No nation will question our power. No enemy will doubt our might," he promised, vowing to lead the country into no new wars and quickly resolve the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

"We will soon be a great nation again," he asserted, pledging an administration guided by vision, strength, and common sense. He criticized the influx of illegal immigrants, highlighting its impact on American jobs and minority populations.

"Inflation has wiped out the life savings of our citizens and forced the Middle Class into a state of depression and despair," he said.

Referring to the Republican platform, Trump promised swift action on immigration, inflation, crime, and other policy areas. He pledged to lower prices by increasing energy production, reduce taxes to spur economic growth, and reallocate funds from green energy projects to infrastructure.

On his first day in office, Trump vowed to end electric vehicle mandates and secure the southern border. "Under my plan, incomes will skyrocket, inflation will vanish, jobs will come roaring back, and the Middle Class will prosper like never before," he stated.

Trump invoked God several times during his speech. "If the events of last Saturday make anything clear, it is that every single moment we have on Earth is a gift from God," he said. "We have to make the most of every day for the people and country we love."

As Trump concluded his remarks, his family joined him on stage as thousands of red, white, and blue balloons descended on the arena, creating a festive and patriotic atmosphere.
