Governor Tim Walz, now Kamala Harris’s running mate, has sparked controversy with his comments on illegal immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border wall, drawing sharp criticism as he joins the 2024 presidential race.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, recently announced as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate for the 2024 presidential election, has stirred controversy with his remarks about illegal immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border wall.
During a CNN interview, Walz criticized former President Donald Trump’s border wall, stating, “He talks about this wall. I always say, ‘Let me know how high it is. If it’s 25 feet, then I’ll invest in a 30-foot ladder factory.’”
Walz's stance on immigration has been under scrutiny, particularly after he signed a bill in March 2023 that grants driver’s licenses to an estimated 77,000 illegal aliens. Walz argued that these licenses are crucial because when illegal aliens are pulled over by local police, driving without a license is often the first charge that can lead to their detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Following Harris’s announcement of Walz as her running mate, she praised his leadership, saying, “As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work.”
However, Walz’s comments about the border wall and his policies have sparked backlash on social media. Critics voiced their disapproval, with one user calling him “a clown” and another labeling him “a full-blown Marxist.” The heated reactions reflect the polarized views on immigration and Walz’s approach to the issue.
